To understand the soul of the modern Mediterranean estate is to appreciate the extraordinary design movement we built together at the turn of the century. In the early 2000s, we introduced a style that celebrated deep warmth, rich history, and textural abundance. We showed a generation how to mix and match grand heirloom furniture, how to embrace the weight of dark corbels and intricate ironwork, and how to fill soaring spaces with rich, layered textures. Those design parameters were exactly what the era required—they brought a grand, old-world romance and an unshakeable sense of security to some of the finest properties in North America, most notably within the private, sun-drenched corridors of Rancho Santa Fe.
Design, much like the estates we inhabit, is a living, breathing entity. Architecture naturally evolves as our lifestyles shift toward a desire for simplicity and streamlined focus. Today, the challenge is not to discard the magnificent, time-honored foundations we established decades ago. The bones of these estates are flawless. Instead, our perspective has evolved to show how we can honor that rich Mediterranean warmth while gracefully guiding it into a sleek, modern visual expression: Mid-Mod Tuscan and Ult-Mod Tuscan Design.
Our studio enters these spaces not to erase the past, but to distill it. We are simplifying the visual line to allow the core architecture to breathe in a completely new way. The layered, multi-toned walls of the classic era are gently refined into a continuous, seamless plane of hand-trowelled natural lime plaster. Shifting the environment into a warm, enlightened alabaster cream horizon creates an immediate, soft atmospheric stillness. The plaster’s micro-porous, flat matte velvet surface catches the intense Southern California morning light, diffusing it uniformly to invite a state of pure, enduring repose.
Within this updated, light-flooded landscape, the traditional materials we love are reimagined with clean, contemporary geometry. The rich stone and masonry elements remain the anchor of the home, but they take on a new visual tension. We are pairing massive, monolithic slabs of unfilled travertine with high-contrast, light-absorbing matte-black titanium metallurgy and razor-thin metallic profiles. Every line is balanced; every material ledger is weighed. It is the exact same spirit of Tuscan luxury, updated for the rhythm of contemporary life.
The technical specifications, precise masonry formulas, and material performance matrices required to execute these generational updates are strictly withheld from the public commercial marketplace.
